Pinckneyville Soccer!

Always looking for new and exciting photography opportunities, I ventured out to Pinckneyville Park in Duluth to shoot a lunchtime group playing soccer. Bright sunny days are best for shooting action sports. It was extremely hot, and probably the very worst time of day: 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. However, I made it without passing out. Thankfully, they played on the outfield of a baseball field, which is much shorter than a regulation soccer field. This made it easier for me to move around from goal to goal.

Not sure where to stand, I initially planted myself behind the goalie. However, I quickly realized I needed to get closer to the action because I was only using a 24-70 mm lens. So, I tried to move with the ball, which also proved difficult. It took a while to get the hang of where to stand, but I think I figured it out. I didn’t get a money shot (someone scoring a goal), but that will come with experience. Next time, I’ll be sure to use a longer lens, to get even closer.

I’m not sure which team won. Fact is, I don’t think they cared. They seemed to do it for the fun.
