It was “blackout night” at Stephenson High School, where students and fans were asked to wear black in support of the teams as they faced the M.L.K. Lions. The game was a slow starter, with several minutes passing before someone scored a basket. The gym is also very dark, so I had to rely on […]

Naima Jackson (#15), Stephenson High School Lady Jaguars The Stephenson High School Lady Jaguars completely destroyed the M.L.K. High School Lady Lions on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. The final score was 61 to 45, but the game was not that close. Stephenson had basically cleared their bench before M.L.K. scored any points. Pictures from this […]

I really like The Hooch gym – old school, in-the-round, seats right beneath the goals. A very intimate setting, that would be rocking with a packed house. The goals were actually “portables,” which are rolled into place before each game. The only downside is there is absolutely no space behind the basket. Players have to […]

I arrived at the Chattahoochee High School at 4:00 PM, right before half-time of the girls game. I had to do a double take at the scoreboard: 10 to 11? I learned that, the much acclaimed Kayla Montgomery was not scheduled to play due to injury. However, as I soon would […]

After shooting over 60 high school basketball games this season, you would think pre-game warmups would be old to me by now. On the surface it looks like stretching exercises and provado, but it’s much more than that. Teams are sizing each other up, showing each other their capabilities before tip-off. Intimidation is a powerful […]

At best, the Parkview High School Panthers team is inconsistent. Not due to lack of talent, but more of finding an identity. Unlike the Lady Panthers who are known for their stellar defense, the boys team has yet to define their style of play. For this reason, the team tends to lose focus at times. […]

It was business as usual for the Parkview High School Lady Panthers on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. With less than 3 minutes remaining in the game, and Parkview up by 20 points over the Central Gwinnett Lady Knights, Parkview Coach Tony Watkins kept his foot on the gas pedal. He pushed the Lady Panthers as […]
